I have a 73 series cruiser but the engine is shot. (I've been quoted $2000 for rings and valves)
I was looking at the option of putting in the 4.5L injected (petrol) from the 80 series. Does anyone know if it will drop straight in? How well does that engine run with gas?
If so, what sort of fuel economy can I expect. I've heard it is about 250kW compared to the 150kW from the 3F!!! If anyone has fuel economy figures for the 80 series and the weights of 80 and 73 series, it should give me a clear indication.
Lastly, any other suggestions?
All info greatly appreciated,
Dave

Dave Im not sure about the engine g/box compatbility for H55T a 4500 TWIN CAM but they run quite well on LPG and it is a fairly common conversion.
Out of curiosity I got a price of $2450 for a fully remanufactured 3F motor plus fitting of $500 in Perth from 3 reputable engine builders. They also offered balancing for another $500 because they reckon its best for engines running on LPG
The weight of FJ73 is 1850kg and a 80 series is about 2150kg
I come across an American site that has adaptors for GM fuel injection off of small block chev V8s to be fitted onto a 3F motor. They claim it offers big increases in power.
Let us know how you get on.

As to power output of the 2 motors I think it is more like 155 bhp for the 3F OR 113 KW .

I agree with roscoFJ73. Petrol cruisers would be VERY popular with a factory 250kw six
