left hand side of the engine, running from the block, just under the exhaust, is a tube down to the sump...
on my engine it has been cut off the sump, and the hole welded over, now this pipe just dumps onto the road!
im trying to find out what this pipe is, and why its been cut? if its some sort of breather, wouldnt that really bad for going through water?
any help is appreciated |

I believe its called a blow by pipe, hasn't been cut thats how they are although I am trying to find if it can be rerouted any where.

that's how it is from factory. even brand new diesel truck engines have a blowby pipe that just sprays poo on the road.
you can block it off and plumb a breather from the rocker cover into the intake downstram of the air filter, this way the oil mist that comes out of there gets burnt, but if your engine has a lot of blowby it will make it smoke and push up your EGT's at full throttle. you can route the breather form the rocker cover into an oil catch can which will solve everything, as long as you remember to regularly drain the oil catch can.
cheers

you must be looking at it from the front of the vehicle (left handside), as far as I know the 3B is modeled on the same block etc so BJ42 is your exhaust manifold on the rhs if sitting in the drivers seat? |

sorry about the confusion, yes it is on the driver's side.
there is a weld on the sump, right under it, i thought that may have been where it went in, also the end of the pipe looked like it had been cleaned up on a grinder, but if you think its factory, i will leave it alone.
its always blowing air, not sucking, and if i cover it, the preassure builds up against my hand, the air looks clean, not smokey or oily too. |
