My Parents "Shopping rig" needs some new springs.

This fact came to a head when I was recently on a Holiday with them and went as a passenger in the XJ (rear seat) whilst towing my fathers 4.5m wooden fishing boat. The 100kg draw bar weight pushed the rear springs down so far that they were only 5mm to the bump stops. Result: I got a saw back! SUrely this is not normal and must be a result of the car being about 12 years old?

Problem is, every suspension place we try to contact does not sell springs that a standard height or very close to that. The closest was Old man emu with 40mm lift. All we are chasing is some new springs shocks, bolts etc, but with heavier duty rears to cope with some demand of towing. My mother fears the "Lift" word because she belives she will not be able to get into the car.

The only offroading the car sees is beach work, so lift really is not needed, and, flex is not a serious concern. Though comfort is!!!

Couple of questions:
- Can you get standard height springs, aftermarket in Australia? If so where?
- Whats supoosed to be the standard ride height of an XJ Sport (to the sills or something just so I can investigate if its sagged or not)?
-Should 100kg drawbar mass really kill the rear end that much on a standard Cherokee?

Any help much appreciated
Thanks.

EDIT: anybody fitted airsacks to one of these? If so how, worth it etc?

Hi thanks for the reply.

I think we may have sorted this, Will get back on how it goes after it gets fitted.

Thanks.
