I have been without a home phone for over two weeks now.
After reporting the fault nothing was done so it was reported to the TIO.
Got a phone call from AAPT & I was assured it would be fixed. A note was left on our door to say the techy had fixed the fault in their network(Helstra) but there appeared to be a phone off the hook (bull)
Prior to the fault supposedly being fixed we could ring our home phone & get a ring tone but the home phone would not ring & we could not ring out(yes we did check it with other phones) now all we get is a busy tone & our ADSL has been on the fritz since we get some net access in the morning & some in the evening but it is intermittent.
An appointment was made for today for the techy to come around so I made changes to my plans today to accommodate it. We need the net as our daughter is enrolled with an online private school.
I just got of the phone with AAPT they rang to tell me the appointment had been canceled & they could not make it till tomorrow.
I have taken photos of all of the Helstra cable Pits on our street they are in very poor condition these will be sent to the West Australian News paper as this is the third time we have lost our phone service for an extended period of time & the rain getting into the pits is most likely why the faults are happening.
They are are also a hazard to pedestrians.
These are just two of them.
It has taken over 30 minutes to to upload the pics
I have heard nothing but excuses from AAPT just had another call from them. Told them if I don't get a call from someone higher up in management within half an hour they will be getting a poor rap with the papers as well. |

Ask the TIO about what compensation you're entitled to. IIRC, it's something like almost 50 bucks a day after the first 5 days. |

IMHO it's not AAPT's fault, their hands are tied by Helstra. I had a similar problem with Iinet when I moved. They tried as hard as they could, but in the end it was Teltra and Telstra only that could help, and as you're not a customer of theirs they're even less helpful than usual. |

It's the fault of both companies |

I seriously doubt it. When it was Iinet and Telstra every single time they'd arrange something, it was Telstra's fault it farked up.
The most painful thing was sitting on hold with Iinet for hours, whilst they sat on hold with Telstra. |

The issue belongs to telstra - the infrastructure and therefore technicians belong to telstra.
Has it rained recently before the phone started to go?
Some of the older telecoms pits dont seal or drain properly and things start to corrode.

AAPT stuffed up the first time not logging the fault report & now Telstra is by not fixing the fault properly last week & now canceling an appointment most likely due to a lack of techy's (we have stuff all of them in town as it is & one of them suffered injuries after he was hit by a train). |

Yep because the phone companies pay a fortune to use the helstra maintained network. So telstra should actually put some money back into the network and fix the POS.
I was lucky, had problems and the tech was out within 48hrs and the problem was fixed. Tech seemed to be a good bloke to. |

The condition of the pits are about on par everywhere. It wouldn't have much to do with any fault as it is only a cover for a plastic junction box through which the cables or fibre run either in conduit or direct burial. The cables are sealed so it doesn't matter whether the cover is broken and not waterproof.
More of a trip hazard. |

Telstra own all the infustructure. The system these days is a absolute joke.
I do exchange work and the quality of work I come across these days is pathetic. I am a contractor and if my quality of work goes to crap we have to go back and fix it.
Telstra guys on AWA's are the work for shitty work. They are paid per job now and since AWA's came in the quality of work has gone right out the door.
No one has any pride in there work these days and I have had enough. I am getting out. Telstra guys can get away with anything where as contractors cannot.

I saw an interesting graph somewhere today...
Basically in the last 10 years the number of people employed by Telstra have dropped from around 80,000 down to 30,000.. |

Its getting less then that as time goes on. Telstra has gone to shit and the network is heading that way to.
The directors keep the share holders happy but it the band 4 and 5 all the way to 8 that keep the customer happy.
