Ford Territory Tyres

Hey,

Anyone got a ford territory and put different tyres on it?

My dad's got one and he's been quoted 300 per tyre to replace with the same as stock, I was wondering if anyone has changed the tyre setup, possible changed rim and tyre and how the different tyres go.

there is cheaper tyres available hankook,maxxis and kumho are a fair bit cheaper

Ok ta, We'll look into that.

My old man said something about stories of people putting different tyres on and having problems with them...

I can't really see any problems as every other car seems to be able to handle a different set of tyres.

I know for fact that the New Coopers ATR's are brillant on the Ford Territory AWD
Cost $280.00 each and garanteed for 90,000K's(Can't get better than that)

ive got a awd territory as my dd and its up for tires i have also been told that i need to replace them with exact size they came with or i will . it up i think its ford bullshit but its not really worth the risk with 48k worth of car but ive seen these things with 22inch rims and 30 series tires at the dealership so who is telling porkie pies then

I have a mate with AWD Turbo Territory with 22"Rims and he has no problem with his.The only thing that would be more sensitive is the DSC in cornering to fast but wouldn't have a any impact on the vehicle overall.

A friend has some Toyo Open Country (?????), seems to like them.

A work mate is looking at buying some (steel rims and tyres) off Ebay that have come of new vehicles when replaced with smicko alloys etc. Stick the good tyres on the Ghia alloys and the old tyres on the 2nd hand steels and fit them upto the trailer/horse float/motorbike trailer.....

As I said earlier, That the Cooper New ATR,s are garenteed for 90,000k min. at $280.00 fitted.That makes them $140.00 because you will only get 45 to 50,000k,s out of standard tyres and you have a much more reliable tyre.

Great question

Ford NZ are saying NO to using non factory spec tyres.

Ford NZ states with respect to tyres that ... " Any change to the original equipment specification may cause the traction control or the Dynamic Stability Control system to function differently from design and may therefore adversely affect the operation of vehicles safety systems".

Effectively they are raising the SAFETY issue.

Actually sounds like crap to me.

The real issue is that the Stability system will get the wrong message if there is a variation in tire diameter across the 4 wheels. Mixing different brands and/or old and new tires may do this. It simply thinks that one or more tires are skidding and will take action.

I have experienced mixing older tyres on the front with over inflated new tryes on the back on a Subaru with VDC. The system either shuts down or will fire off inappropiately on fast but mild corners, either way its not pretty.

So keep tires to similar wear depth and inflation and everything should work fine. BUT do not replace a lone tire, replace them all.

I expect to see an increasing problem with these systems until most people become aware that they can no longer mix old and new tires with stability systems.

go a set of bf goodrich all terrains.. my dad has them.. got like 20000 kms on them they look new had a mate get 110,000 kms out of them on an f-250..

going to say this like it or not..

Coopers are shit! my bro had 2 sets of them.. they wore like shit and could never get the warranty all they said was its your suspension or your wheel alignment.. every time he had it checked..

last person i heard got 20000kms out of the stts... 20000 kms you may aswell run simex on road.. now sueing coopers for not giving warranty..

not sure on the territory but you may not be able to fit 16" rims on it due to the brake size other wise go a more common tyre size which will save you money

Had Simex 31 x 10.5R15 Mud-terrain Centipedes on for the last 60 000 km SO FAR., 1650kg probably got another 5K left.

Plus you need to have your tyres rotated at an authorized dealer every 5 or 10 thou etc, anyone who buys them beliving the warranty is tuggin...with that said mine have been a great set but are offroad only, and getting replaced with simex this year, just hope you dont need warranty as I havent heard of one person being successful...yet!
