i was keen to keep driving if there was another car with me to recover me if i got stuck.
not worth it to chance it when your on your own
and i only owned the car for less than 24 hours

Its actually pretty rare that Ginini is open this late into the year- When i used to live in canberra, after the first decent snow they used to shut the big massive 8" Pipe gate about 2k shy of the summit, and then a few weeks later the gate at bulls head.

the last time we went up there we got stopped at the last gate, and hiked the rest of the way- got to about 300m from the top and had to stop and go back because a blizzard tried to eat us! Laughing
