Yo dudes!
Just looking into buying an RC in the near future. So do tell what's a good one to start with? What I'd like to do is a bit of offroading (Won't call it rockcrawling) mixed with some normal type speed stuff. So I guess just an all rounder might be best to start with. But have no idea if I should buy electric or gas/nitro. Appreciate any help!
Cheers! |

Steve,
If you want out & out speed the nitro is the way to go - but if you want something to just play with (still quick) but without the hassle of nitro then go eletric......
What I love about electric is as long as you've got battery - you just plug it up & away you go - while the nitro guys are still trying to get their junk started..... |

well said Wooders....
The beauty of an electric Monster Truck is that if you want to go fast, you can strap a fast motor in it with stock pinion gears and go fast. If you wanna go slow, you can put your stock motors back in with small pinions and go crawling.
From one extreme to the other.
Is a Monster Truck the sort of thing you might be after ?
How about a wild dagger ? Someone posted some pics just recently....who was that.....?
Anyway, the more info you give us the easier it is to help. Tell us what sort of things have caught your eye...

Adman,
The Wild Dagger was my exact thought as a place to start. Fairly cheap with good performance. Like to do some climbing but still have enough speed to have a bit of a play.
My next question regards the radio gear. What the best type of controller for ease of use? Don't really need a controller with 10,000 different features for just starting out.
And what about batteries? Best type? Obviously the more mah the longer it will run. Where to start? 1500mah? How long will they run on a charge with just normal mixed driving? 20 minutes? |

Wheels radios are the best. You don't drive your full size with a pair of sticks so why drive your 1/10th scale...
FM is less vulnerable to radio interference than AM.
Hi-Tec do a Lynx FM system for around $170 including two servos and receiver. This is great value for money. Other brands like Futaba, Sanwa, JR and Airtronics are all good brands and you'll find they all do similar units for a similar price.
The wild dagger is a great truck and would be an excellent place to start.
Where abouts are you Steve ? Maybe we can help you out with a reputable hobby shop to go to....
Did you check out our website yet ? www.monstertruckparts.com.au

Adman,
I'm in WA and so far have been looking at the Stanbridge's Hobby Shop webpage. |

If you want a muck about truck/rockcrawler/go fast/anything rig the only answer is an E MAXX .
They rock straight out of the box ,very fast ,put locker spools in them and they can crawl and are just about unbreakable.
You can do so much with them you will wonder what you did without one |

Yeah but the E-Maxx is almost twice the price of a wild dagger.
Standbridges is fine. Radiomodels have a good website and good prices but they are absolutely useless to deal with. Don't say I didn't warn you.
You might try Ryper Hobbies too. No web that I know of.
Cheers
