Just got back from the Gafneys Creek Navrun it was pretty challenging, had some snow and heaps of rain which turned the tracks into ice, slippery as hell. Apparently ( havn't seen above site yet) Tassie Navrun is completely in the sand dunes and on the beaches, our team will be there. There are trophies for all competitors who compete in the event. No prizes for the individual comps. |

Out of the ones you have said, I have done:
Southport Lagoon and White Timber Trail but not white timber road, Black Swan Lagoon or weld river.
I have never bothered to go into black swan lagoon, although I am going on a trip into southport in a couple of weeks so I might do the side trip in then .
As for White timber road, I have "NFI"...
The Weld River is up north isn't it?
Where are these "minor" tracks you go to. What do u think is the hardest track in our area. (by the way, I live in Dynnyre (just out side of sandy bay))
Got any pics of your beast?
Cheers,
Nick |

Weld river is up country from huonville its a bit hard to get to at the moment forestry dept has gated off direct access...but there are ways and means around that.
Alot of people talk about "White timber" and often they mean two different things
1. On the top of Jefferys track about halfway ( Going from crab tree to Lachlan ) turn left and eventually after about 30 kms of rocks the size of soccer balls you come out at juddbury....kidney belt recommended here THIS IS WHITE TIMBER TRAIL
2.On the Lachlan side at the base on the climb to the plateau ( going in the same direction ) turn left off jefferys track and you follow the vally around usually abit of water ruts and clay and come out on back at Lachlan THIS IS WHITE TIMBER ROAD
Now you might be thinking how does this joker Know this... well really i'm still not sure but i did a bit of research and this is the best i could come up with and some people will still swear that X track is white timber.
balckswan can be harder than southport at times, believe it or not i got in and out in less than an hour about three weeks ago it was as dry as a bone mine you we have had a bit of rain lately. |

I think we are getting a bit off topic.......but zeehan and trail harbour....its been a while since Ive been to there exactly, but all up the west coast that way is pretty similar
Inland: lose rocky mountains. broad valleys which are peat bogs..
Coastal: long beaches which are accessable to 4x4s
WARNING the peat bogs dain water across the beaches and cause QUICKSAND the sort of stuff that eats vehicles they lose an average of two a year when you get on the beach stick to the water line the hard sand is there. |

Drafty-How did u go ? (you understand what I mean )
Who is going tot he Navrun down here?
Off the topic...
Jonesy,
I did White Timber Trail last weekend. Not a bad track. I agree with your location of white timber trail (did it with a gps) but am still not sure about this white timber road.
Anyway What sort of wheeling is at the weld river (rock/mud/steps/etc)? Could u pm me how to get around the 'gate' I might either go there or southport/blackswan this weekend.
How hard is Weld river compared to other tracks and one last thing do you think southport will be muddy with all the rain we have had or isn't it enough (please say yes)?
Cheers,
Nick |
