Hi guys, well here's my small hassle I have 90% of the time I engage low range 4WD. It only seems to happen on steep descents and only in Low does the "check engine" light comes on. My mates and I have put it down to the oil in the transfer case getting too hot and the warning light comes on. I do not get irratic driving, or do I loose any power.
After stopping for lunch it has a tendancy to stay on after a break, but will only switch off when back in 2WD on cruising back down the highway home. Anyone else had this problem, or is it just a gremlin (which is ok, as it's been the only one I have had)
p.s. - The service guys have checked the computer for held data, and there is none showing, all seems a1
Cheers

Would be a good idea to get to the botton of it. As the CEL is not on all the time it would seem to not be a hard fault (ie. component\sensor falure). It seems more like something going out of range intermitidly. It's unusual that the ECU isn't logging the code into memory.

What are the service guys using to extract codes? Tech 2 (GMH only) or something else. Cos if they manually try to extract codes they won't access saved data. Is the vehicle an auto??? As a manual has no sensors on them....Or the transfer case.

Daz, it is a manual. Not sure how GMH service guys have tried to extract info from the ECU, but they said they tried every avenue and still came back nil. So its a "BIG" ????

This happens to mine just about every time I engage low range. Usually happens on hot days and if I'm somewhere dusty. Goes off after a a few hours back in 2WD. I've had it checked and the service guys reckon it never shows a fault on the computer so not to worry about it.
