I did a 2 inch body lift to my MQ about 3 weeks ago, no dramas as of yet except i had to adjust the 4wd/transfer leaver forward a bit so it would allow me to put it into low range without the shifter jumping out of low gear.

I did this and it works fine except at times the shifters rattles and it drives me nuts. It rattles at different speeds and sometimes when i power on and sometimes when i let off the accelarator.

I have pulled the boot off and had a look and retightened the nut that holds the leaver to the gearbox, but that was tight. I have driven around with the gearstick knob off but still no difference.

has any experienced this before or know how i can fixed it or give me some ideas?

thanks

Sacha

have you checked to seeif its rattling against the floorpan where the shifter comes through the floor ???

You did say you had to alter it , try putting it back where it belongs and test for rattles again ...... might be in that alteration.

I had to move the leaver forward a little bit, so the gearstick boot could stretch for the shifter to go in low range. So i am pretty sure it is not hitting anything, it doesn't rattle in 4H, N or 4L just 2H.

That is what i was going to do next is to put it back to its original postion ( u cant tell it has been adjusted) and buy a new gearstick boot so it might stretch more.

dose the lever go straigh into the box? or dose it have linkages?

if it has linkages they could be a tad loose

the lever itself when in 2wh or 4w dose it hit the body floor??

It wouldn't let me put it in 4L after i did the body lift. if i took the boot off it would let me but it would be close to the metal plate thing that surrounds it.

So i loosened the nut and took the bold thing out and moved the shifter forward a bit. Now in 2H it rattles and is very annoying. I think ill try and modify it and put it back to how it was, even thoguh u cant even tell i have adjusted it.

Junior what do u mean u cleaned it and put it back, what does it do now?

the shifters bolts to a shaft that comes out the side of the box, i just can't see how it could rattle every thing seems tight and fine.

thanks for your replies
