optical pick ups rely on light and a chopper wheel set up. If dust gets in there it won't work- Hall Effect rely on a metal cog and magnetic pick up, dust doesn't affect them. |

Pirana light beam system works well (around $300), would rather have hall effect but how much dust should end up in the dizzy cap anyway? |

As i have only just bought the vehicle i am not sure what type of distribuytor is already in it. So in i went, now upon lifting the cap it was not what i expected. There is a rotor arm(spring loaded) which spins withinn the rotor cap and has a bolt looking thing sticking out of the arm.. Rising from the plate at the bottom is two poles silmiliar to whats inside the cap. Now i wasn't game to lift the black plate at the bottom where i guess is the points, i guess i'm not quite sure what type of distributor it has tradditional mechanical points or fingers crossed electronic points, can anyone guide me as to the type of distributor this is. Oh also the distributor has two wired going in to it both red and black.
Thnaks for your help |

Under that plate is the points (or electronic pickup if it's aftermarket, but there will be another black box nearby)
There's also a couple of prongs on the base plate that the rotor extends out to as rev's rise shorting out, factory rev limiter. I broke the prongs off and now can do 6500rpm |
