I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knowledge regarding the longevity of the Jackaroo (Isuzu) 3.2 V6? Looking at buying a 1992-1995 Jackaroo and most of these have done a few km's by now. The bodies and interiors appear to hold up very well so I was wondering about the motor. What sort of milage can you expect to get out of one of these engines?

I've got a '92 model with 170,000 km on it and it still runs like a charm. They appear to be very reliable units. As with a lot of the Isuzu engines, they can sound a little rattly at times but this is fairly normal and can be ignored most of the time. Had it for 4 and a half years and am extremely happy with it all round.

have a friend with a 92 with 160,000km, it starts and runs like near new, no smoke, makes good power.

it was a b itrattly in the top end, not sure if it required cam bucket shimming or what he did to it but now it is sweet.

they are pretty good value.

I'm very happy with my 3.2 even though its from a newer model and not a Jack.. (2000 Frontera) still the same motor as such. Already done 165,000km and still sounds as good as the first day rolling out of the show room.
Cheers

My V6 SWB has 260 K's on it - Compression good and even across all cylinders , No smoke and No oil use at ALL

Sometimes has noisy lifter on cold mornings - However this dissapears on warm up

If you regularly change all fluids (Engine . Gearbox Diffs . Transfer .Brake .Clutch and Radiator )you should have a long lasting economical 4x4

I give mine hell and it just keeps going !!

Thanks for the welcome fellas

Funny you should say sumfin about the lack of " Shorty's "

I drove from Melb to Cape York land return last year only seen 2 like mine

Thought they must be escaped mutants from the factory

Interesting enuf - I went with 5 other couples- Patrols and Discovery's

The Jack was the only one not to break anything underneath for the entire trip

My Frontera was the only one to go to the Cape unscathed last June also. To be fair the Patrol only had tyre probelms (the only ones on the trip) and the old 60 broke an aerial mount on the bullbar. The Prado ratteld to bits and the Bravo did a CV.
