OK.

I have a 1986 4Runner with a Holden V8 under the hood + P/S - A/C and LPG conversion. I dont have any room under the bonnet to put in a second battery (I just have enough room for the first battery) so it will need to go in the back.

Can I use any type of battery inside the cabin area or does it need to be a sealed type. I want to use a deep cycle battery so can I get this type as sealed or do I need to use Gel Cell/AGM batteries.

Thanks

generally it doesn't matter as long as its away from water. A deep cycle battery would be no dramas, though for the look people go buy or visit the wreckers to get a sealed battery cover, but hey its your choice, your only concern would be to cover the terminals themselves and to hold it stable.

You can buy sealed gel cell deep cycle batteries for inside the vehicle- I just helped install one inside a relation's Patrol.

Using a normal lead acid inside isn't a good idea- they emit hydrogen when charging (explosive gas), plus if you have the misfortune of rolling the vehicle do you really want to have battery acid dripping out in the cabin?!

I think I will. Just need to decide if I want to go 1 to 2 batteries in the back as I have a few things to run off them and I want to keep them small so I can fit them into the space under the roll bar on the sides.

I am looking at the Exide Orbital.
