I assume everybody knows! But if you are thinking of heading up to the Victorian/NSW high country for Australia Day long weekend, don't forget to check with local CFA, or whatever government department!

I spoke to my sister in Canberra yesterday she and her family were lucky they weren't in the areas where the big fires hit. She had to drive through the fires to get to her horses to see if they were okay. Apparently the property where she keeps them suffered quite badly but the horses were moved to a safe place and only suffered some smoke inhalation and soot in their eyes. My sister reckons that everything is covered in ash and soot and 5 minutes after taking a shower you are covered in it again and smell like smoke.
She was also very pissed off because while people were trying to save their homes lowlifes were looting anything they could steal. I hope the police catch these slime and smack em around. The other show of complete stupidity was onlookers videoing residents trying to save their houses instead of helping..what sort of people would do that while their neighbours house is buring down?

For our overseas friends Canberra is our Capital and the fires there destroyed about 400 homes on Saturday and killed 4 people.

The fires continue to burn and it looks like they will for a while.

Glad to hear your sister is ok, TP.

I can't believe the video camera people either. I think the motivation is to sell footage to the networks.

Personally, I'd be throwing all the gear out of the Paj and backing it up ready to shift things for people. Or offering to be a ferry for the CFA.

Your news people are probally getting to be just like those in the US. They feel that they cant get involved they are there to cover the news not make it. They could be watching some one getting beaten, but as long as they are watching through a viewfinder, its ok. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

The thing is Doug these weren't news crews, the people videoing were just locals out with their camcorders. I can live with the fact that news crews are there to provide images to show the rest of the world what is happening but it is a different story when someone from another suburb cruises in and starts videoing people in distress Mad .
I am a couple of thousand K's away from Canberra but I know if I was there I would be offering to help do something.

Craig

That when you start kicking asses. The police were probally to busy with the looters, that they might look the other way when you give a well deserved ass kicking.
