My odometer has done that a few times, but the speedo still worked. Pushing the trip reset button has seen it work again.
good luck

if you would like it to work, take it to an odometer specialist, they will remove it and fix it, i know of a local one in Sydney, but have no idead about toher in other states.

The odometer is driven by a small motor via a shaft and plastic worm-drive gear. Its possible that the motor might have an intermittent connection or the gear binding. Is the tripmeter working as well, as the motor drives both via the shaft. Its possible, with a small screwdriver, to remove the odometer for inspection. The motor that drives both the odometer and trip meter gets its power supply from the PC board at the back of the speedo.

The ones I've played with have a magnetic disk inside the speedo that spins via the cable...... its the magnetic attraction that moves the "needle"....mind you this was in an MQ !!!!

There's plenty of instrument techs out there .... if all else fails use the yellw pages

Assuming GQ. The prob is the drive in the gearbox. I havent fixed mine yet, but basically its a square drive that makes connection for the electical odometer. This square drive becomes worn and rounded, and doesnt make connection. Buy them genuine from Nissan for bugger all.

I have to fix mine yet.

This joint said they could fix my mates speedo for 85 bucks and that every gq speedo that he has seen that is broken has had the same problem. Also for 15 bucks they will look at it tell you what is broken and if it is fixable. Nissan quoted him $300 Mad for a new odometer, I know what I will do when mine dies in the arse Smile

it can be a loose wire or cog in the back of the odometer, depending on what needs to be done it costs $55-$125. Hope this helps
