http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24275738-2,00.html

A SYDNEY couple watched in horror as a crane tipped and fell as it lifted a spa bath into their renovated home this afternoon – completely wrecking the waterfront property.

Now the whole street in the suburb of Miranda is without power and two cranes will be needed to remove it.

Graham and Jacqueline Leech were standing on their back deck guiding the crane driver as he lowered the spa into the bathroom when they noticed it moving too far to the right.

"We heard over the radio, 'Stop stop stop' then suddenly there was a boom," Mr Leech said.

"The spa hit the railing then the whole thing just tumbled over."

The two-bedroom sandstone and weatherboard home - which the couple had nearly finished renovating - was completely destroyed.

"I doubt any of the house is salvageable," Mr Leech added.

Police and fire crews are working to remove the crane, which is still on a 45-degree angle outside the front of the house at Matson Cres, Miranda.

The boom of the crane crashed through the length of the house, lodging in the roof and also ripping down power lines.

Residents along both sides of the street are expected to be without power for hours.

The crane driver sustained minor injuries with cuts to his hand.

The news pictures were interesting.

I saw an upside down crane on top of a building in townsville about 1985 on Ingham Road.

How heavy is the spa that it can topple a crane that size?

You can topple most mobile cranes just by not setting up the outriggers correctly, even with no weight on them. I just hope they are insured.

I hadn't paid much attention to the outriggers, seeing as the timber packing is right there with the outrigger, it looks like it was never extended...

One. They aren't exactly Yuppies
Two. So what if they were why would you want things to go wrong for someone? Jealousy is an ugly thing
Three. Ever tried to carry a spa down through a house on a steep sloping site?
Four. It appears that it is the crane operators fault in not siting his crane correctly, placing it too close to the edge of the roadway

One. I live in the South West. They live in Miranda. Yes they are.
Two. Things usually go wrong me for me, makes me feel great when it's someone elses turn for a change.
Three. Honestly no. I have Chicken Arms, what more do you expect???
Four. I know. I've spent a fair bit of time around Cranes.
Five. Go away with your stuff that makes sense. It's not pick on me week anymore. Very Happy

Wait until you guys have poured your heart, soul, and life's savings into renovating a house and see if you still think it's funny when something goes badly wrong.

Its easy, done it once before.

1. Buy case of beer and some meat.
2. Ring mates*,
3. Move spa,
4. Plug spa into the wall,
5. Drink Beer, cook meat, talk shit, eat meat.
6. Once spa is warm, sit in spa, eat more meat, drink more beer, talk more shit.

Easy Very Happy

*Being yuppies from miranda they probably dont have mates, just social aquaintences.
