I love the word "grouse." I don't think I use it enough. I use "gnarly" and "tops" a fair bit though!

I have had this argument many times, but is gnarly Australian or American? I think it depends on pronunciation - if it has aussie surfer drawl it is ours but if it twangs it is not?

Either way "tops" is definitely aussie.

I thought a bogan was a term for someone who lived in the city on the dole and smoked, drank lots and always wore a flanno.

Wouldn't the Aussie equivalent for redneck be a bushie or something?

Despite my Camberwell Grammar education, 15 years in NQ finds me saying "Ay" quite often.

"ot ay" translates to "the weather is somewhat on the warm side today, don't you think, old chap"

Shrimp is an American term. No Aussie would ever call a prawn a shrimp. But the Yanks have no idea what a prawn is so when they tried using Hoges in an American add for Australia they had to use shrimp instead.
