Hi all,
Before you flame me... I have searched high and low.
I own a 2000 GU UTE (no intercooler)
I have got my hands on a 2.8 top mount factory intercooler. Has anyone fitted one to their 4.2TD before? If so can you help me out? I'm on the sth west side of Bris.
BTW I'm not interested in power I just want to cool the turbo a bit more... and before you get carried away with spending 2 grand or more of my money remember that I dont want to spend anywhere near that amount. Rather leave it standard if it came to spending that much. I'm interested in people who have actually done this conversion not commentators or wannabees!!!
cheers

Putting an intercooler on your rig won't cool your turbo. It cools the AIR AFTER the turbo before it goes into your intake.
I'm pretty sure the intercoolers were both the same for the 2.8 and the 4.2 and even the brackets will bolt straight up. The pipes coming and going from the intercooler will be different though, so you'll either have to go custom or try and get them from a wrecked TD42i, or dare I say it a Nissan Dealer.

thety are the same Icooler as on the TD-6 4.2 bolt straight on once you get mounts and hoses etc. just block the hole off on the end of the IC.

Any ideas on cooling the turbo then? Apart from not as much right boot? |

why are you wanting to cool it? they will run hot! as long st you cool it down after use there should be no real issues unless you have put more boost in in which case you might need a bit more fuel |

You could put a scoop above the turbo to promote air flow over the turbo and dump pipe but wont have a whole lot of effect. If your worried about the turbo/dump pipe heat damaging cables, paint etc you could look at exhaust wrap and turbo blankets. |

where would i get the exhaust wrap from? sounds interesting... would be more comfortable for the passenger too. |

i've done it, all we had was the complete 2.8 setup, made custom mounts and custom piping. cut the bonnet for a scoop.
IMO more effort then it's worth.... |

Ive done an ebay cooler top mount, made a mount similar to factory but wider, with a scoop yet to be fitted for under $700, no labour though, probably $1500 with labour plus painting the bonnet scoop.

What mounts were these? why do they have to be "custom"? Mines has the body mounts ready on the firewall.

because all we had was a bare intercooler and the hoses from a 2.8
we had no choice but to make the mounts. |
