What can you swap from 75 over to a 78/79, just curious in case mine shits its self soon??

Is the Diffs the same of 75 & 78s? EG locker swap.

Bullbar mounts? Rear Bar mounts? EG Front rear bars

Battery trays? Duel batts set up

The turbo I have now would swap to a 78'? Exhaust etc?

Rear Springs are different and front Coils of course.

Much else?? Seats bolt paterns? I have an aftermarket seat.

Rear Draws??

All info would be great

i'm prety sure the rear diff is the same. and if urs is a 91 onward modell the front diff should be the same too. i'd imagine the bullbar and chasy at the back is all the same.

being the same motor and same basic body i'd gues the engine bays r the same. so battery trya should fit. my 75 looks the same as my 78 under the hood where everything is...

in the 78/79. it still had the 1hz but they called it the 1hz/b. so might wana double check they didn't change the manifold slightyly. duno there.

i can tell you all about 75 to 78 swaps mate.

i have put a 78 cab on a 75 chassis.

fuel tanks are different, as are floor pans. trans tunnels are larger and the gearsticks come thru different places. later models use an electronic speedo, hence no hole for cable in firewall. seat mount holes in floor pan are 30mm longer front to rear than 75 seat mounts.

Chassis is essentially the same with regards to mounting barwork, as is general engine bay layout, at least for those of similar engine variants

Thanks Crew

Mainly just interested in the lockers and Bar work. But the seat and Console, draws would be a bonus.

Anyone know about the Turbo??

mate turbo should not be a problem
i would have a look in the arb price book to check about the diffs ie part numbers. they will fit in the housings but i have heard that the 79s have a thicker stronger crown wheel

front diffs are the same, but possibly a different ratio.
rear diffs are not the same.
79's are 5 stud wheels.
turbo will be a problem as 79's have egr connecting back up to the intake pipe.
bar work will change over.
battery trays are slightly different, but can be modified.

Front diffs are not the same, the 79's are a 5 stud pattern, 75's are 6 stud, 79's are 4.30 gears, i think 75's are 4.11's, front end parts are different - ie tie rods are behind the diff on the 79's, rear ends are tottally different - dont even try to swap parts as nothing will fit.

bottom line is that alot of drive train parts dont mate up.

louis

I have an HZJ79 and a ton of 75 parts and nothing fits.

same size, but gearing is different, cant just swap pumpkin fr pumpkin without changing gears.

Wiring harnes is different also, doors different, not sure about the flywheel though, might be different to mate up to the different clutch on the r151 transmission.

The h55f tranny won't fit in the HZJ79 either as the crossmember will come in contact with the suspension arms. driveshafts are a different length. All the brake parts are different as well - nothing interchangeable.

The rear diff in the 79 is a 32 spline and the 75 is a 30 spline - so nothing mates up, the 79 shaft is also much thicker.

Engine/components, rad are the same, front fenders, hood, inners are the same.

Hope that helps.

Louis
