What are your thoughts is he an Aussie Legend or just another scum bag criminal?

Im not asking if you think he is a wanker.

Remember Ned Kelly is allso an Aussie Ledgend and he prob killed more people than Chopper.

At least Chopper only killed bad people right Question Very Happy

Right now, I reckon he's a scum-bag crim. In another 100 years he might be regarded as a legend - or forgotten completely.

As soon as I submitted my response I JUST knew someone would make such a remark. Seriously taking someone's life , even if justified, would be horrendous. That constable, first night shift, and he is in the worst place possible.

I feel for him.

Soldiers are faced with this as well, its not an easy thing to do for a person of sound mind, taking anothers life then becomes a primevel act of self presevation, but the regrets can destroy a person once tha adrenalin has worn off. Killing people isnt fun, being killed isnt either.

But I digress, back to the question at hand, He has definatleu been a crimianal, no doubt, and what he has done in the past would in some countries seen him given the green needle, but I duno I kind of like him, as he is now, very funny, and seem now to be trying to right the wrongs of the past Confused

Criminal scum.

he wasn't a robin hood, or a ned kelly (who had the vendetta for personal reasons, but still was a thief for his own gains).

he was a part of that lifestyle to benefit himself, not the community as some like to pretend.

Scum bag, but far from the worst of the scum bags. I'd rather hang out with Chopper than a lot of the other farkers.

It was a questioned asked on Nova in Brisbane the other day. And he was likened to Ned Kelly by more than one listener.

Seams you know more about Chopper and Kelly than most. Care to enlighten us? They were both Criminals commiting crimes for their own gains not to benifit the general public.

Kelly Killed police officers. As far as i know Chopper only killed other criminals. Although some may beleive the only difference between a cop and a crim is which side of the bars they are looking at.

Ned Kelly was up against crooked cops aka crims who were after him and his family. I think he was somewhat justified in what he did to begin with, but like most crime it got out of hand and he didnt turn back, however he did try to keep a moral code of only attacking those who had wronged him and tried to keep the general public safe.

Chopper also follwed a moral code, getting the bad guys. but did he have any reason for it to begin?

Both commited bad crimes based on their own morals. pretty hard to justify on any level but ned is a legend and will be more so than chopper.

I garuntee had there been no movie, hardley anyone would be calling chop a legend. Had there been a movie about other scumbags they may not be so frowned upon?

either way chopper was a great movie and the only decent acting eric bana ever did(with the exception of full frontal)

He is what he is, away from any moral hand wringing he's an interesting character and I guess I'll always be interested in his stories, however much creative licence he may take.

I'd say he's paid the price in pain and blood, and he's squared his time in gaol as far as society has asked. I think he'll always be remembered and always have his backers and haters.

Kelly was a horse (or cattle? can't remember) thief. corrupt police did the dirty on his family. He was a criminal and i don't understand the "worship" he gets, but i can see why he went after blood from the police force. this doesn't excuse his life as a thief. he also lived in harder times than most of us could imagine.

Chopper on the otherhand, from the stories told, was in the lifestyle for $$$ and $$$ only. a fair few of my old man's mates grew up in the same area as Chopper, and according to them (i don't know if they are any more reliable than chopper himself, so take it with a grain of salt), his moral code wasn't as strict has he'd like everyone to believe (i.e. he didn't restrict his standover tactics to "crims")

Kelly was a crook that time and circumstances created a "legend" from, Chopper is a crook with good PR. i don't particularly care for either

Now it's even.
Even though it's not exactly what I think, I don't feel that he should be labeled a scumbag criminal.

Perhaps there should have been a middle choice like…

• He made his mistakes, he's paid his time in gaol, now's he just an amusing part of Australian folklore.

I don't understand the Ned Kelly legend thing. If you spend any time looking at what Kelly did, he and his gang, ambushed and executed two Police Officers. All the so called stories about Ned turning bad because of corrupt Police were from his side only and are not historical fact. Again, if you read the real historical facts, Kelly wasn't anywhere near as hard done by as people think. He was a thug with a chip on his shoulder. He murdered members of his own gang that he thought were informing on him and he murdered two Police Officers in cold blood.
Visit the memorial at Stringybark Creek and it puts it in perspective.

He is what he is but I find him a lot more interesting then the likes of Carl Williams or Cory the Party Boy (I know Cory isn't in the same league but is still a rooster getting fame and more importantly fortune for just being a tosser)
