i have a 100A dual battery setup in the GU and i only have 60A fuses between the two batteries.
the fuses keep blowing. not straight away but since TTC i have blown 3 fuses.
i would have used 100A fuses but i cant find any 100A fuses in the type i need.

do i really need to use a fuse? (the way it was wired up in the previous car didnt have fuses and it worked fine for quite a few years till i put it in mine)

any ideas??

easiest option would be to change to 60a auto reseting breakers instead of a fuse.

everyone has their own thoughts on whether a fuse or breaker is required.

some kits dont ship with them, others do.

I guess it just helps stop the wires from melting in case something does go wrong.

couldnt find any larger fuses or auto reset circuit breakers yesterday so i just wired it up directly.

apparently the control box has a auto reset fuse in it.

does anyone else use fuses in their setups?

Yes, I have a 60A fuse between main battery and Jaycar controller. Only time it's blown was when main battery dropped two cells and aux battery was attempting to start the engine.

Whenever mechanics disconnect first battery and short it to ground the FETs in the controller blow, protecting the fuse quite nicely. Rolling Eyes

i just had a closer look at the setup this arvo after suspecting just that.

occasionally if i start the car by turning the key fast it doesnt have time to react and tries to draw power from the deep cycle to start the car Mad
the cars starting battery isnt the best condition and the deep cycle is brand newish.
might be time to update the starting battery.
il definately do it before the snow trip
