Thats the main reason why I don't convert jeeps to gas when the owner want the tank underneath.
Even a smaller diameter tank isn't much better but it would improve it a little but you'll be up for a new tank and straps to suit.
The regulations for hang down is pretty crazy when you look at them. You'll probably find that the way it is it passes.
