They look shit, I wouldn't pay for them if it was me.
I'd want them fixed or removed all together.
I would also make them fix the holes they put in my window frame because of their lazy and shit house work men ship.
Thieves don't want to be seen or heard. |

Dude you got ripped, get a refund as if thats the best that can be done with the install then realistically any patch up will not be any better, besides do you really want to leave your windows open with those gaps, the mozzies will have a field day. |

Scott is entitled to disagree with the salesman re the door ... if the door is so weak, why sell security screens
Who cares if it easy to break down .. it may well have 3ply 15mm laminate in it and the soild teak door may have a 4 or 6 point full frame lock making kicking it in pretty unlikley. If they want in they will do it, I had an aunt that was burgaled by removing tiles from the roof and kicking through the celing during the day.
The screens as they are look shit
I would chat to the parent company and tell them to sort out their franchisee that is just nowhere near good enough. |

They had those screens at the forensic psych I once worked at.
They kept the mozzies out at least. |

A sharp pair of side-cutters works for those screw heads, quietly too. |

Salesman has been and gone - I told him to leave. He's not happy.
Claims GM of Crimsafe reckons it's a perfectly acceptable method of attachment, and no house has ever been broken into through a Crimsafe screen.
Says they're going to take me to Consumer Affairs (?!?) to get money from me.
So. Calling all security types. Can anybody point me to more information on standards? Australian Security Industries Association told me anybody installing "Security" products in SA needs to be licensed. Salesman told me somebody has been "pissing in your ear."
They've offered to alter the mounting arrangement so that they're screwed from the inside - but they'll still sit proud of the window frames, which I'm not happy about. I asked if I could see a sample of this, and he got shitty because "we've never had to do that before."
Right now, I'm in a bad mood!

Of course they haven't been broken into through the screen, thats cause the complete screen is lying in the garden bed after they were removed.
I say "Today Tonight" there arses, but seriously get in and take it up with the ACCC |

Are you stalking me? They came back and installed re-manufactured screens yesterday. They insisted I be there for the install, which is why it had to be a Saturday.
But, before then: I spoke to Crimsafe, and they were surprised that I wasn't happy with the original installation method - it's basically standard. Their website includes a photo of the "security" screw. I've since noticed a few other houses with screens installed the same way - I still think it sucks. Also spoke to a builder's licensing mob: the company's license is for cabinetry (?) - essentially, they're licensed to install in wood, not metal. The bloke was quite clear that they are not licensed to install anything to an aluminium frame.
Then the company contacted me about a "custom" installation to address my concerns, and that's what we did.
I haven't taken photos, and it's now a little too dark. But they re-made the screens to sit inside the window frames, riveted aluminium angle into the opening, and the screens are now screwed to the angle from inside the house.
Outside, they've put colour-matched aluminium flat down each side, to cover the gaps and the holes from their first attempt at installing. I asked them to use double-sided tape for the flat - they wanted to use screws.
Looks much better from outside, but I wouldn't call it a perfect job. Looks OK from inside when the sliding window is closed, but when it's open the screws stand out (not colour coded... ) If it annoys me too much I guess I'll paint them.
I asked the installer if this would become a regular "option" and he wouldn't give me a straight answer. He said this is similar to how screens used to be installed, but they had to change to remain competitive - because everybody else installs the cheap way. Cost would definitely be an issue for them - took him over 2 hours to install 5 screens, and he needed my help to hold the screens while he drilled and screwed.
I've paid the money - it's done, I'm moving on. Next job, get insurance payout from the removalists - it's just over a year since I moved in, and the last repair (that they will cover ) was only completed last month. |
