Hey All
As the title shows, I purchased the RC Hummer H2 1:8 scale 4x4 From Toy world the other week. I purchased it for $128 it was on special brought down from $159 or something.
It has heaps of power its amazing keeps climbing hills like there’s no tomorrow. The 4wd is sweet but really needs a front/read diff lock which is something that i will be modifying in the near future. (Don’t want to break it yet) Also it was made in china... The body for it looks asume but i mean I ran it into a pole and the front top bullbar/flare cracked. The body is made of very soft plastic im sure will break easily.
I have also installed a "Body lift" of about 1cm didnt help much but it was the largest I could put in without needing longer screws for screwing the body back on. I did this because the front wheels bloody scrub when you turn them and articulate limiting the amount of front suspension when turning!! Note I also put the tires on the wrong way round because obviously they grip into the dirt better around the way I have them.
The car also came with treads to replace instead of the tires but the car is alot slower with them I find it boring. The top speed of the car I calculated is 22km/h!!! which is pretty dam fast. I had wished for alot lower gearing however, Something i am going to have to modify myself again... Larger tires would of been a plus to.
The battery life in it is Bull shit. Simple as that Its a 1200mha 7.2 Volt battery at best on full charge I will get 10 minutes out of it. Battery Takes about 5-6 hours to charge. I’m going to be getting a $60 4400mha sometime soon . But I suppose at only $128 for the car you can’t expect much hey!!
Overall I am fairly happy with it, Will be allot more once i get a new battery but.
Here is some pictures, I will get some outdoor ones soon when the battery finishes charging. Please note in all pictures all wheels for the car are still touching the ground in the articulation. I also through a ruler in to give you a better idea on the scale. Enjoy.

i bought the LandCruiser version (to use the shell for a scale build) and YES they are a pretty good truck for what they are.
battery life is crap and the battery gets that damn hot too!
Ive already locked the diffs in mine, wasnt really hard to do but took some time.
steering is absolutely crap with both diffs locked but it will go over anything you point it at (within reason).
remove the back bumper while your at it.
you cant remove the front bumper fully as it holds the steering servo in place. you can however massacre it instead.
enjoy. |

I did remove the back bumper, I tried removing the front and realised I couldn't... The steering In it is pretty shit I was hoping you would be able to get it to turn the wheels when its stationary but they hardly move. I pulled the rear diff apart the other day. The gearing is as low as It can be made without doing massive heavy modifications... which involes finding parts. Will lock the diff sometime soon.
What did you use to lock yours? Last RC I had the diff was plastic so i just grabbed a soldering iron and melted the plastic gears togeather worked realy good. |

Great truck!!!!!
I've got the FJ40 awesome truck for 130$$$$ Have removed the rear bar off mine and pulls great wheelstands......
Worth spending the extra bucks on the battery- Just picked up 3300mHa battery from the hobbie store HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! does it fly and the drive time is about 20 minutes however after a week of thrashin it around and several rollovers in the dirt and on the street I've noticed that the driveline is suffering a bit! mite strip it and give a lube job.
BEWARE not to ram the front wheels directly into anything flatout as Ive allready broken two off the white pivot arms on the front steering servo !! contacted the supplyer http://www.modelengines.com.au/ and got hold of several new ones from them (aparently they got plenty of wrecks been returned) so they striped off the parts and they came to me via the hobbie shop no charge hows that!!! |
